Between the 1st and 5th of May, SGMUN sent a delegation of nine students to EuroMUN 2025. Our delegates participated in six different committees, ranging from crisis and expert to beginner levels, notably as delegates and also as chairs. EuroMUN also entertained us with many fun socials. We made new friends, worked through difficult resolutions and created many, mostly remembered, memories!

Thursday 1st – Arriving in Maastricht

For most of the delegation, the way to Maastricht would involve an epic road trip involving much good music, a short detour to a quaint café for breakfast and sweltering heat. After checking in and meeting up with the rest of the delegation, we wandered around Maastricht, discovering the beautiful town. A notable location was the bookstore in an old Dominican church. The day ended with a picnic in a park besides the Meuse River, the view of the setting sun was fantastic and the conversation gripping. A moment of calm before the fun chaos of the next few days.

Friday 2nd – Day One of EuroMUN

The day started with many delegates wandering around the city some more, one could spend weeks in Maastricht and still not discover all of its hidden beauties. By mid morning, we had all met at a local, and very popular, café and enjoyed a hearty brunch. Next on the itinerary was registration where we heard speeches by Diego Salama and Raoul Bessems, and the EuroMUN secretariat officially opened the conference. In the afternoon we joined our committees for a very competitive scavenger hunt that brought us across the city, and into contact with many hidden parts of Dutch culture. The day ended with the Red Flag social where everyone had to not only wear something red but also write down their own red flag on a paper and wear it proudly. From traditional yet creative examples to scandalous inside jokes, the night was full of laughter and stories.

Saturday 3rd – Debates Begin

So it begins! Our delegation comprised of two chairs in intermediate committees and five delegates at levels from beginner to expert and historical crisis. Notably, one of the former was chairing the committee of two of our delegates, suffice to say that they would have to truly impress as expectations were high. It was a long day of difficult, yet in most cases productive debates as the delegates began diving into their respective topics. To wrap up the day, we headed to the “We’re all mad here” eccentric style party, with characters such as the mad hatter, SGMUN’s very own Santa Clause and a beautiful peacock mask.

Sunday 4th – Draft Resolutions & the Gala Night

Time is of essence on the last main day of debates. Intense negotiations, careful discussion, and explosive exchanges were the hallmarks of this day as the committees worked towards draft resolutions and communiques. All that effort was rewarded by the Gala night, a black-tie event to be held on a boat, which managed to set sail this year. As our well-dressed delegates arrived it was clear that some had decided to rebel and wear a variety of colours and hues. The night was long on dancing, socialising and quality time with our fellow delegates and friends.

Monday 4th – Final Day & Road Trip

Adrenaline filled our delegates, mostly dispelling the hangover, as a rush of activity carried the day. Today was the time to pass resolutions and resolve often inflammatory disputes between nations. We are proud to say that all the committees in which our delegates took part, passed resolutions more or less on time. Additionally, at the closing ceremony, three of our delegates earned Best Delegates Awards and the customary gavel, which would be used responsibly, and two received shout outs for their amazing performances. After tearful thank yous and goodbyes, our long drive home began. The road trip home was of even greater epic proportions than the way to Maastricht, with quite a few unplanned events and detours creating many great memories and photos. It can also be said that the brain of the one francophone of the group almost overloaded from keeping up with all the different dialects of German spoken in the car.

Reflecting on EuroMUN 2025

For some, this conference was a blast, for others it did not meet their expectations. But for all it was a time of great comradeship, of entertaining new interactions and in-depth personal conversations. SGMUN is incredibly proud of its delegates for all their hard work, from our esteemed Mama Duck to those first-time delegates who excelled. Thank you for making the conference such a wonderful experience and see you at the next one in 2026.
