St. Gallen Model United Nations (SGMUN)

1. Scope of Application

1.1
These Terms & Conditions (T&C) govern membership in the Association St. Gallen Model United Nations (SGMUN) as well as participation in all activities, weekly debates, workshops, delegation trips, and the SGMUN Conference.

1.2
The Statutes of SGMUN (May 2024) remain the legally binding foundation of the Association. In the event of discrepancies between these T&C and the Statutes, the Statutes prevail.

2. Membership Requirements

2.1
To become a Simple Member, applicants must:

  • be enrolled at the University of St. Gallen;

  • have read and accepted the Statutes;

  • agree to pay the membership fee;

  • complete the application process established by the Executive Board (EB).

2.2
The EB reserves the right to refuse membership applications without stating reasons, as stipulated in the Statutes.

3. Services Provided by SGMUN

SGMUN offers its members, within its capacity:

  • weekly debates and training sessions,

  • access to preparation for international MUN conferences,

  • workshops and social events,

  • opportunities to apply for Club organs such as the EB, CS, AB and RC,

  • participation in internal events and community activities.

Service delivery is not guaranteed, and may vary depending on resources, capacity and internal decisions.

4. Membership Fees & Payments

4.1
The annual membership fee is determined by the General Assembly (GA) in accordance with the Statutes.

4.2
The fee must be paid within 14 days of receiving the confirmation of membership.

4.3
Membership fees are non-refundable, including but not limited to cases of:

  • resignation,

  • exclusion,

  • non-participation in events,

  • prolonged absence or interruption of studies.

This is consistent with the members’ obligations and the financial provisions in the Statutes.

4.4
Additional charges (e.g., delegate fees for conferences, travel-related costs, social packages) are set separately by the Conference Secretariat (CS).

5. Conduct & Participation Expectations

By joining SGMUN, members agree to:

  • participate actively in SGMUN events and debates,

  • represent the Association respectfully and professionally,

  • comply with the Statutes and the Rules of Procedure (RoP) during debates,

  • uphold the values, neutrality, and integrity of the Association,

  • treat all members with respect and engage constructively.

These obligations reflect the duties outlined in the Statutes.

6. Events, Debates & Delegation Trips

6.1
Registrations for events, especially paid events, are binding.

6.2
Refunds for paid events will only be provided if:

  • the event is cancelled by SGMUN, or

  • the EB grants a refund in exceptional circumstances.

6.3
Delegation trips, conferences and travels may be subject to additional terms, such as:

  • payment deadlines,

  • accommodation rules,

  • expected conduct abroad,

  • cancellation rules imposed by external partners.

6.4
SGMUN may exclude participants from any event if their conduct endangers the smooth running of the activity.

7. Behavioural Rules & Sanctions

7.1
SGMUN follows a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment, discrimination, hate speech, aggressive behaviour, or any violation of personal dignity, in line with the expectations stated in the Rules of Procedure.

7.2
Possible sanctions include:

  • verbal or written warnings,

  • removal from events,

  • temporary suspension,

  • exclusion from the Association, as per Statutes Art. 10, 13 and 17.

7.3
Members may be immediately removed from activities in case of severe misconduct.

8. Termination of Membership

8.1
Members may resign at any time with 30 days' written notice as defined in the Statutes.

8.2
Membership may automatically end or be suspended due to:

  • loss of student status at the University of St. Gallen,

  • non-payment of fees,

  • serious breaches of duties,

  • gross misconduct.

8.3
Former members have no claim to assets or refunds once membership ends.

9. Liability Disclaimer

9.1
SGMUN assumes no responsibility for:

  • personal belongings,

  • injuries or damages during events,

  • travel disruptions, delays or cancellations,

  • obligations of external partners or conference hosts.

9.2
Participation in SGMUN activities occurs at one's own risk.

10. Data Protection

10.1
The processing of personal data follows the SGMUN Privacy Policy and complies with Swiss data protection law.

10.2
Data is used exclusively for organisational purposes, event coordination and communication with members.

11. Amendments to the T&C

11.1
SGMUN may amend these T&C at any time, ensuring consistency with the Statutes.

11.2
Changes will be communicated via e-mail and published on the website.

11.3
If no objection is raised within 14 days, the updated Terms & Conditions are deemed accepted.

12. Applicable Law & Jurisdiction

These T&C are governed exclusively by Swiss law.
The place of jurisdiction is St. Gallen, Switzerland.
