General Assembly 2024

The St. Gallen Model United Nations (SGMUN) recently held its annual General Assembly, and it was a momentous event filled with significant decisions and new appointments. Here are the key highlights from the assembly:


Approval of Previous Minutes and Audit Reports


The meeting commenced with the approval of the minutes from the last General Assembly, which passed unanimously. The yearly audits were reviewed and approved with a 5-1-5 vote, and the audit report received unanimous approval.


Statutes Modification


A major highlight was the unanimous adoption of modifications to the statutes. The changes aim to update and expand the rights and duties of various bodies within SGMUN, reflecting the evolving nature of our organization.


Membership Fees


The assembly deliberated on the membership fees, ultimately deciding on a fee of 50 CHF per year or 30 CHF per semester, which was approved unanimously after an amendment.


New Executive Board


The election of the new Executive Board members was a pivotal part of the evening. Each candidate shared their vision and goals for the upcoming year:


  • President: Elias Braunwarth Elias emphasized the need for increased membership through enhanced marketing efforts and closer collaboration with the Conference Secretariat. His election was confirmed with a 10-0-1 vote.

  • Vice-President: Alena Kohl Alena, who joined SGMUN last year, aims to support Elias in his endeavors and foster a welcoming environment for new members. She was elected with a 10-0-1 vote.

  • Head of Finance: Quentin Cornuau-Plessis Quentin plans to secure external financing through sponsorships and ensure transparent accounting practices. He was elected with a 10-0-1 vote.

  • Head of Marketing: Noah Anderegg Noah's focus is on improving social media engagement and forming partnerships with other clubs at HSG. His election was confirmed with an 11-0-1 vote.

  • Head of Events: Sophia Hummel In a closely contested election, Sophia Hummel was elected as the Head of Events, receiving 7 votes to Diego Oschatz's 3 votes, with 4 abstentions. Despite having no prior experience, Sophia brings enthusiasm and a fresh perspective, planning to organize flexible and engaging events for SGMUN.


Auditing and Recourse Committees


The assembly also saw the election of the Auditing Committee (Dorottya Krnacs, Jakob Schäfer, Max Dittmann) and the Recourse Commission (Philippe Biollaz, Marlene Dietrich, Bénédict Tanner), both for the term of 2024-25.


Honoring Dedicated Members


In a special recognition, Bénédict Tanner and Egan Paquay were elected as Members of Honour for their long-standing dedication to SGMUN.

The General Assembly concluded with a sense of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming year. The newly elected board members and committees are poised to steer SGMUN towards continued success and growth.
