MUNSA 2024: Shaping Global Perspectives in Barcelona

MUNSA 2024 in Barcelona marked an exciting milestone for our team at St. Gallen Model United Nations (SGMUN), with delegates not only representing us on international issues but also assuming key leadership roles in pivotal committees. Over the course of the conference from September 12th to 15th, our delegates actively engaged in high-level debates, bringing thoughtful perspectives to pressing global topics.

Security Council: Fostering Peace in Kashmir

Our delegation in the Security Council took on the critical topic of Ensuring Stability in the Kashmir Region. They delved into the geopolitical complexities of South Asia, promoting dialogue and exploring constructive approaches to enhance peace and stability. Their participation underscored the importance of multilateral cooperation and diplomatic solutions in one of the world's most sensitive regions.

Leading the Special Political and Decolonization Committee

In the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL), two of our members led discussions on Atomic Testing: Effects and Reparation and The Question of French Polynesia. As chairs, they guided the committee through debates focused on historical justice and decolonization, challenging delegates to consider both the social and environmental impacts of nuclear testing and colonial legacies. This experience allowed our chairs to foster a collaborative environment, emphasizing critical thinking and empathetic engagement on these sensitive issues.

Navigating Future Geopolitics in the Arab League

Two additional members chaired the Futuristic Arab League, where delegates debated 2030: The New Multipolar Order of the Arab World. This committee examined how emerging alliances and regional shifts might reshape the future of the Arab world. Our chairs facilitated insightful discussions, helping participants anticipate and strategize for the evolving multipolar landscape in the Middle East and North Africa.

The MUNSA 2024 conference was an invaluable learning experience for our team. The exposure to diverse viewpoints and the rigor of international debate further strengthened their diplomatic skills, leadership abilities, and commitment to addressing complex global challenges. The conference reinforced SGMUN’s mission to develop globally aware leaders who are ready to engage in solution-oriented dialogue.

Congratulations to all participants for their hard work, dedication, and thoughtful contributions. We’re proud to see our members make such a positive impact on the international stage and look forward to seeing them apply these experiences in future SGMUN events.

With a strong start this semester, we are excited for the opportunities ahead to continue fostering meaningful, globally conscious discussions. Stay tuned for more from SGMUN!
